The educational event will be held on Thursday, October 11, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Hawks Point on the campus of Northeast Community College at 801 E. Benjamin Avenue. It is being held as part of National Depression Screening Day, an annual campaign that brings attention to the importance of mental health education, early detection, and treatment.
“Our National Depression Screening Day event provides students with information on depression and other mood disorders, helps them understand why early intervention is important, and connects them with resources for how and where to seek care,” said Stephanie Brundieck, LCSW counselor at Northeast.
The theme for this year’s National Depression Screening Day is “Reach Out,” which focuses on the importance of people talking about their experiences with mental health. It can be to a friend, a love one, or reaching out to a mental health professional.
Hundreds of organizations across the country including community centers, hospitals and colleges are hosting National Depression Screening Day screening events. The online screenings are educational in nature and not diagnostic. They will help someone determine if they are exhibiting symptoms associated with a depression or another mood disorder and if they should seek help.
