Northeast student group provides bicycles to international students

NORFOLK, NE – The Pulse Christian student group at Northeast Community College in Norfolk took part in many community service activities on-and-off campus this past academic year, which included giving away tie blankets to students at Christmas and final exam treats at the end of the first semester, among others. They also found time to provide a service to additional fellow students at the end of the academic year.

Pulse members donated two bicycles to students who are living in the College’s residence halls this summer as a means of transportation.

Pulse member Abigail Wright, Norfolk, said they were happy to provide the bikes as a way to let students know who they are.

“We were thinking about ways to continue to give back to the community, especially on campus. We also want to continue to expand the diversity of the group in our Bible studies, which is something positive that I would hope every student group would like to see.”

Wright, who will be club president next year, said that includes Pulse members taking part in co-sponsored events with a prospective international student faith-based club beginning this fall.

Several international students living on campus have been among the beneficiaries who have been using the new set of wheels, which include a new bicycle Pulse members purchased and another donation from a community member that was refurbished.

Pete Rizzo, director of residence life at Northeast, said the bikes will be available during warmer weather months for anyone living on campus who may not have access to a vehicle.

“I think it’s awesome. When the Pulse group reached out to me, I told them that the bicycles would be great! Students will really get great use out of these bikes,” he said.

Members of the Pulse Club who were involved with the bike donations are Sarah Aschoff, Randolph, Ashlee Kopejtka, Norfolk, Whitney Lindsay, Norfolk, and Wright.

Anyone one interested in donating additional bicycles in good working condition, may contact Rizzo at pete@northeast.edu or (402) 844-7151 or Terry Nelson, advisor for the Pulse Club at theresa@northeast.edu.
