Eye in the sky over Siouxland

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, NE - Jake Rains displays one of the drones he uses in his line of work during a presentation at the Northeast Community College Extended Campus in South Sioux City.

Rains, promotion/PSA coordinator and chief drone pilot for KTIV television in Sioux City, served as the final speaker during the College’s Visiting Lecture Series recently. “The potential for the drone industry is incredible,” he said. “Everyone can fly now. Whether it’s for use in Hollywood, commercial uses, in the news, law enforcement, savings lives, in agriculture, or for recreational uses … it seems very much in the future, but it’s all happening right now.” Meanwhile, Northeast Community College will host a drone camp for youths in South Sioux City in July. In this hands-on learning experience, participants will build their own drones to keep, learn how to fly them and earn their Junior Pilot Wings.
