ACT College and Career Readiness Champions are high school seniors, K-12, postsecondary, and workforce professionals who are making a positive impact in their communities through their efforts to advance college and career readiness for all. They are individuals from across the country who support ACT’s mission of education and workplace success.
Neeman is director of the TRIO program at Northeast Community College. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Northeast a five-year, $1.1 million federal TRIO grant to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.
She received Nebraska’s ACT Postsecondary Champion Award for her part in preparing individuals for college and career success.
“Everyone, at some point in their life, has been inspired by an individual who is tenacious, positive and dedicated to helping others achieve their goals,” said Scott Montgomery, ACT senior vice president of public affairs. “The ACT College and Career Readiness Initiative provides an opportunity to recognize those exemplary individuals who we all know and love and want to ensure their stories are told to inspire others to action.”
Montgomery said the ACT College and Career Readiness Champions are individuals across the country who support ACT’s mission of education and workplace success. He said these individuals are making a positive impact on their communities through their efforts to advance college and career readiness.
ACT State Councils, comprised of education and workforce professionals from all 50 states, serve as the selection committee and select one Champion per category for each participating state.
Earlier this year, Neeman was named as the 2018 Alumnus of the Year Award by the Horatio Alger Association, which recognizes exceptional leaders who go above and beyond in their service to the organization and their communities, despite having faced significant adversity and personal challenges in their journey to achieve success.
