Smith, Bales, Dumont and Hunter earn all-conference honors

AMES, IA – Four members of the Northeast Community College baseball team have earned honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic (ICCAC) Association for their performance during the 2018 season.

Players who demonstrated excellence on the field this season received All-Region honors that were voted on by the men’s coaches within the ICCAC.

Drew Smith, Elkhorn, outfielder, was named to the ICCAC Division II All-Region Second Team. Smith has a .382 batting average this season and an on-base percentage of .464. He has recorded 44 runs, 58 hits, 51 runs batted in (RBIs) and 11 home runs.

Three players were named to the Division II All-Region Honorable Mention Team.

Brennen Bales, Nebraska City, pitcher, had a .342 batting average and an on-base percentage of .412. He scored 32 runs, had 54 hits, 44 RBIs and nine home runs.

Christian Dumont, Bellevue, infielder, batted .362 with an on-base percentage of .459. He had 60 runs,
63 hits, 29 RBIs and nine home runs for the Hawks.

Tanner Hunt, Elkhorn, batted .338 with an on-base percentage of .414. He scored 36 runs, had 52 hits, 45 RBIs and 13 home runs for Northeast.

Northeast opens postseason play in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region XI Tournament on Wednesday at Ashford University Field in Clinton, IA.

The #7 Hawks (17-36-1 overall, 6-22 in the ICCAC) will face #8 Iowa Lakes Community College (17-33 overall, 5-23 in the ICCAC) in the first game of the tournament on at 6 p.m. The winner will face #2 North Iowa Area Community College (34-18-1 overall, 20-7-1 in the ICCAC) in game four on Thursday, May 10, at
6 p.m. Play in the tournament continues through the weekend.
