Hawks golf team competes in Region XI Tournament

PANORA, IA – The Northeast Community College golf team struggled on the first day of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XI Tournament, but came back a day later to shoot its best score of the season.

“I think the guys were a little nervous the first day of the tournament. This is the biggest tournament of our season and puts a lot of pressure on teams, especially teams as young as we are,” said Kurt Pytleski, Hawks coach. “I was very proud of the way my guys came back and played on Sunday to shoot 313 compared to 351 on Saturday. Our players were very disappointed with their scores on Saturday, but came back strong on Sunday.

Northeast finished eighth in the tournament at Lake Panorama National Resort in Panora, IA, with a two-day total of 664. Kirkwood Community College won the tournament with 601.

Individually, Kirkwood’s Dawson Peters was medalist after shooting a three-over, 147. For the Hawks, Brook Klinetobe finished with 164, Andrew Schnoor shot 165, Mason Stubbs, 166, Capp Bengston 169, and Dylan Lilienthal 188.

This was Northeast’s last tournament of the season.

“This was a great group of guys to work with and I appreciate all of the hard work they put in this year,” Pytleski said.
