“All in the Timing” will be held in the Cox Activities Center theatre on the Northeast campus Thursday, May 3, Friday, May 4, and Saturday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. A matinee will be performed on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m.
“All in the Timing” is a showcase of six one-act comedies by David Ives, who is celebrated for testing the limits of the English language. The characters dive into black holes known as “Philadelphias,” where hilarity ensues. In one, chimpanzees named Milton, Swift and Kafka must re-create Hamlet while locked in a room. In another, a dubious salesperson peddles courses in a strange language in which “hello” translates to “Velcro” and “fraud” becomes “freud.”
The production is directed by Adam Peterson, Northeast’s director of theatre, who also serves as technical director. Peterson is assisted by Northeast alumni Marie Kubo, Norfolk. Paul Muncy, Northeast history and geography instructor, serves as musical director.
Peterson said “All in the Timing” was selected because of its flexible casting, which allows all of the department’s actors an opportunity to shine.
“I love the challenges presented by this production. For the actors, the challenges are finding the right comedic timing and flirting with the subtle line between reality and the absurd. On the technical side, we’ve had to discover how to present six stories on the same stage with quick changes while ensuring that each show has its own distinct voice.”
Cast for the production includes Godelyn Anghay, Battle Creek; Cully Cerv, Clarkson; Kai Moeller, Saint Edward; Paige Moeller, Wisner; Bethany Phelps, Norfolk; Tyler Story, Wausa; and Ethan Zvolanek, Wymore.
Design and tech for the show are provided by students in Peterson’s Play Production course. They include Layne Roth, Norfolk, master electrician and stage manager; Kai Moeller, Saint Edward, front of house and assistant scenic design; Godelyn Anghay, Battle Creek, costume design; Cully Cerv, Clarkson, scenic design; Tyler Story, Wausa, sound design; Ethan Zvolanek, Wymore, light design; Tanner Alcorn, Fremont, sound engineer; Clay Carter, Norfolk, sound board operator and sound engineer; Marco Moreno, Sioux City, IA, stage hand and drafting expert; and Sadie Johanson, Pierce, stage hand.
Several Northeast Community College alumni are also serving as crew members for the production. They include Tyler Wiesler, Wayne, second assistant director and stage hand; Ashley Kingham, Norfolk, hair and makeup; Kat Stuthman, Las Vegas, NV, light board operator; and Hadley Brickner, Valentine, stage hand.
“All in the Timing” has been entered in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, where it is eligible for awards in response by a representative for the organization.
