Hawks softball picks up two wins over Concordia JV

SEWARD, NE - The Northeast Community College softball swept Concordia University JV in a doubleheader played here yesterday. The Hawks defeated the Bulldogs, 7-1 and 17-1.

In the first game, Rosario Garcia went 3-for-4 with a triple. Inese Uribe finished 3-for-4 with a double, and Shyanne Sutton went 2-for-4. Alayna Allen (6-8) had the win with one run, two hits, nine strikeouts and seven walks in seven innings.

In game two, Savannah Robertson was 4-for-5 with a double; Teanne Edens, 3-for-5 with two doubles; Allen, 3-for-4 with a double; and Chandler Hehnke, 2-for-3. Edens (2-4) had the win with one run, three hits, six strikeouts and two walks in five innings pitched.

“We hit and pitched well today,” said Iris Woodhead, Hawks coach. “Hopefully it will be good momentum coming into a big region weekend for us. We just have to show up mentally to play instead of just physically. We are a physically talented team, but our ‘good enough’ mentality has held us back all season long.”

Northeast (17-27 overall, 3-15 in region) has six games remaining in region play this season. On Saturday, they will travel to Iowa Falls, IA, to face Ellsworth Community College at 1 and 3 p.m.
