The Hawks won the first game 6-1 behind pitcher Moriah Payton’s five strikeouts. She picked up her fourth win of the season. Savannah Robertson was 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. Alayna Allen was
1-for-3 with a homerun and four RBIs.
The Chargers took the second game 9-6.
For Northeast, Emily Sherstone was 2-for-4 with a run; Jade Long was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI and Shyanne Sutton finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Chandler Hehnke took the loss.
Iris Woodhead, Northeast coach, said her team played two different games.
“We had 12 walks in the first game and we did a good job at pushing those runs across the plate. Moriah Payton pitched very well and we played good defense behind her. Game two was not good,” she said. “We did not prepare ourselves between games and that showed, again. We cannot give up six runs in the first two innings.”
Woodhead said Allen did a good job coming in the third inning and getting the job done on the mound.
“In her five innings, she had nine strikeouts, two hits and zero earned runs. However, our defense fell apart a little in the fifth inning. We panicked at the plate knowing we needed to score so many runs, and that panic was tough on us. We have a lot of growing up to do.”
Northeast (6-10) will host Southeast Community College on Saturday, March 17 at 2 and 4 p.m. at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park.
