“We are at the time of year where you win and you move on, so we accomplished what we needed to tonight," said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. "We didn’t shoot that ball particularly well, but we did a pretty good job on the defensive end of the court.”
The #2 Hawks had a 38-percent field goal percentage to Marshalltown's 26-percent.
Jade Blackburn led Northeast in scoring with 11 points and also had three rebounds and one assist. Mykala Baylor totaled 10 points and nine rebounds, while Sierra Bell had eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
Bell was also serenaded with a round of “Happy Birthday” by her teammates after the win.
Northeast (24-4) will face #1 Iowa Western Community College at the Region XI Championship on Saturday in Council Bluffs, IA. Game time will be 5 p.m. if the Iowa Western men also play at home, and 6 p.m. if they do not.
The winner of the regional tournament will host the District K Championship on Friday, March 9. The winner of the District earns an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Lubbock, TX.
