Strong start lifts Hawks women's basketball over Central, 89-54

NORFOLK, NE - Strong first quarter energy gave the Northeast Community College women's basketball team a victory over Central Community College here tonight. Final score was 89-54.

"I thought our first group brought good energy from the start, and that was pleasing because we sometimes get off a bit slow," said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach.

Northeast held a 20-9 lead after the first quarter.

Svehla said the bench did a good job of maintaining that energy, contributing 41 points on the night.

Four Northeast player scored in double figures. Judit Valls put up 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Mykala Baylor totaled ten points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Teagan Pompa and Baileigh Nuzum finished with 11 and ten points, respectively.

The Hawks (20-2) will travel to Council Bluffs, IA, on Saturday, where they will face #24 Iowa Western Community College in a 5 p.m. game.
