Northeast women's basketball struggles in second half, falls to Iowa Western

NORFOLK, NE - The Northeast Community College women's basketball team faced their second loss of the season here tonight, falling to Iowa Western Community College, 65-47.

The Hawks led 28-27 at the half and took a 35-29 lead early in the third quarter. Iowa Western gained energy in the second half, shooting 8-for-12 from the three-point line in the 18-point victory.

"Our shooting left us and Iowa Western caught fire," said Matt Svehla, Northeast coach. "We didn't stop their runs, and we really didn't have any runs of our own. We are 15-2, but we didn't represent that very well in the second half tonight. We need to get better on both ends of the court."

Sierra Bell led the Hawks with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals. Mykala Baylor tallied nine points and six rebounds, while Irene Sanz had eight points, three rebounds and two steals.

The Hawks (15-2) will host Midland University JV on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus.
