Northeast Coach Matt Svehla said Iowa Central played “tough.”
“The first quarter was a sign that they were very ready to play. We made some adjustments in the second quarter, but it was mostly that we just defended better.”
The Hawks struggled from the three-point line and in rebounding in the first half. However, in the third quarter, Northeast outshot Iowa Central 23-14 and was 7-14 from the three-point line in the second half.
“Our bench has been good all year, and tonight they scored 43 of our 61 points, Svehla said.
Teagan Pompa led the Hawks with 14 points. Irene Sanz finished with nine, Kori Fischer had eight and Mykala Baylor contributed seven points.
Northeast (11-0) will host North Dakota State College of Science on Tuesday, December 5, at 5 p.m. in the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.
