Northeast women stop Concordia JV, 72-62

SEWARD, NE - Despite a sluggish first half, the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team earned a win over Concordia University JV here last night. Final score was 72-62.

At halftime, the Hawks led 30-29.

“We were very flat and not alert for much of the first half,” said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. “We appeared to still be on Thanksgiving break, but we got going in the second half and were better on both ends of the court. Mykala (Baylor) really controlled the paint, and Kori Fischer ran the floor well in the second half.”

Baylor recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Fischer scored all of her ten points in the second half.

Other high scorers for Northeast include Irene Sanz with 13 points and Sierra Bell with 12.

The Hawks (9-0) will face North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Iowa Central Classic in Fort Dodge, IA. NIACC is currently undefeated and averaging 109 points per game.

On Saturday, Northeast will wrap up the Classic with a game against Iowa Central Community College at 4 p.m.
