NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College Music Department will open its 2026-27 concert season with a fall concert featuring performances by the Northeast College Choir and College/Community Concert Band.
The concert will be held Sunday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The Northeast College Choir will perform several selections, including The Bringer of Noise and The Lake. The Bringer of Noise uses imaginary language inspired by a fictional story, while The Lake incorporates the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe.
The choir is under the direction of Margaret Schultz, professor of music, and is accompanied by Dr. Linda Boullion.
The College/Community Concert Band will feature several classics from the wind band repertoire, including Brighton Beach and Overture for Winds. Brighton Beach is a march written in the English band tradition and features melodies reminiscent of folk music.
Charles Carter’s Overture for Winds, written in 1959, has remained a staple of the concert band repertoire. The work is structured in three sections and features two primary melodies, with the second serving as a loose interpretation of the first.
Music lovers of all ages are encouraged to attend and help Northeast celebrate the start of another concert season.
