Kevin McLouth, instrumental activities director at Northeast Community College, has been selected to conduct the Nebraska Class C All State Wind Ensemble, with a performance scheduled for Friday, March 28. The concert will take place at 5:00 p.m. in the Kearney High School Auditorium.

McLouth serves as a music instructor and instrumental activities director at Northeast Community College, where his responsibilities include teaching instrumental lessons and directing several ensembles, including the college/community concert band, the Northeast Jazz Machine, and the Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble.

The Nebraska Class C All State Wind Ensemble is a statewide, audition-based honor ensemble created to provide high achieving student musicians from smaller Class C schools the opportunity to participate in an all-state performance experience during the spring semester. The ensemble complements Nebraska’s traditional fall all state opportunities by offering access to students who may not be able to commit to the fall audition and rehearsal schedule. Students from across the state earn selection through a recorded audition process and rehearse under the direction of selected clinicians before presenting a culminating public concert.

This year’s performance will also feature a commissioned work by Nebraska composer Larry McTaggart. The piece, titled Never Forget, is dedicated to those who lost their lives during World War II.

McLouth said the opportunity to lead the ensemble and present a world premiere is especially meaningful.

“I never thought that I would have the chance to give a world premiere performance of a piece of music, so I am super excited about this opportunity,” McLouth said.
