Northeast Community College has been selected as one of just 15 colleges nationwide to participate in Student Voices Informing Practice in Noncredit Workforce Education, a national initiative led by the Education and Employment Research Center at Rutgers University in partnership with the National Council for Workforce Education.
The initiative brings together community and technical colleges to elevate the experiences of students in noncredit workforce programs and strengthen short-term workforce training through research and peer learning. Participating colleges will examine barriers to enrollment and completion, enhance student supports, and identify strategies to improve outcomes.
Northeast’s selection reflects the strength of its noncredit workforce programs and its commitment to student centered, employer aligned training that meets regional workforce needs.
“This initiative allows us to elevate the voices of our noncredit workforce students and the faculty and staff who support them,” said Charlene Widener, vice president of educational services. “It also gives Northeast the opportunity to learn from peer institutions and contribute to a national conversation focused on improving learner outcomes and workforce opportunities.”
Participation in the initiative will also help inform future federal and state policy discussions, including Workforce Pell, which would expand financial aid access for short-term workforce credentials.
