Matt McCarthy

Matt McCarthy, director and instructor of Criminal Justice at Northeast Community College, has been elected to serve as the Post‑Secondary Cohort Representative on the board of the Law & Public Safety Education Network (LAPSEN).

“I am honored to represent post-secondary educators nationwide. This is an outstanding organization that is well respected in law enforcement, and I look forward to helping strengthen pathways for future public safety professionals,” McCarthy said.

LAPSEN is a national career education organization dedicated to supporting the development of law, public safety, corrections, and security career pathways.

The organization plays a key role in coordinating the public safety cluster for SkillsUSA and provides curriculum, certifications, and models that help secondary and post‑secondary institutions prepare students for careers in law enforcement, fire services, security, and related fields.

In addition to its work with educators, LAPSEN collaborates with agencies and professional organizations — including Explorers, Public Safety Cadets, the National Sheriffs’ Association, and IADLEST — to expand experiential learning opportunities and build strong pipelines into public safety professions.
