Families from Northeast Community College and the surrounding area attended a pajama party on Thursday, February 26.
The event featured Northeast Early Childhood Education students reading a story to children, with parents invited to listen in the upper level of Union 73. Attendees enjoyed bedtime snacks and had an opportunity to interact with Jazzy, the Northeast mascot.
The event was organized by the Early Childhood Education Club and the Northeast Library,
Lisa Guenther, Early Childhood Education instructor and club sponsor, said the group was pleased with the turnout, noting that while attendance varied from previous years, feedback remained positive. She emphasized the importance of promoting reading, highlighting how simple activities can offer both learning opportunities and enjoyment.
“It bears repeating. Reading daily, starting with a parent or caregiver reading to a child, then the child reading on his or her own, helps with vocabulary growth and critical thinking, among other things,” Guenther said. “This event shows how reading can be fun.”
The pajama party was part of the Find Your Calm Innovative Mini Grant project.
