Known for her engaging teaching style and unwavering commitment to student success, Karen Hoffman of O’Neill was honored during Northeast Community College’s Spring Semester In-Service.
She was one of four who were presented with US Bank Great Performer Awards, earning the college’s Adjunct Instructor of the Year Award on Wednesday, January 7. Hoffman was nominated by Merri Schneider, director of the O’Neill Extended Campus.
“Students who have taken Karen’s classes consistently describe her as friendly, understanding, and deeply knowledgeable about healthcare,” Schneider said. “She is always prepared, meticulous in her teaching methods, and sincerely committed to her students’ success. Beyond her professional excellence, Karen brings warmth and creativity to the classroom — she even provides home-cooked meals for the students in her classes, creating a welcoming environment that fosters learning and connection.”
Leah Barrett, Northeast president, said as an adjunct instructor of Nurse Aide and Medication Aide, Hoffman’s impact is evident in her students’ achievements. Those who complete her courses are exceptionally well-prepared for state certification testing and equipped with the skills needed to thrive in healthcare settings.
“She goes above and beyond — offering make-up sessions, removing barriers to completion, and adapting schedules to meet students’ need,” Barrett said.
Since beginning her teaching career with Northeast in Fall 2007, Hoffman has taught over 120 classes and trained more than 750 Nurse Aide and Medication Aide students — many of whom have advanced to become LPNs and RNs serving communities across Nebraska.
Some of the responses from the people she works with include:
