Brian Headlee, creative manager at Northeast Community College, was recently recognized for his leadership in redesigning the college’s logos with the US Bank Great Performance Staff Member Award, which includes a $250 honorarium.

Northeast President Leah Barrett said exceptional creative leaders go beyond design to shape identity and inspire lasting impact. She credited Headlee’s work with strengthening the college’s brand and encouraging a more forward-thinking approach across campus.

“Through a rare blend of artistic vision, strategic insight, and genuine collaboration, he consistently turns ideas into meaningful work that reflects the excellence of Northeast Community College,” Barrett said.

Headlee was nominated for the award by Jill Bertsch, director of Marketing.

Headlee’s influence is evident across the college’s most recognizable visual elements, including the new institutional logo, athletic logo, and college seal. These designs were developed through an inclusive process that engaged students, faculty, staff, and community members through surveys, focus groups, and interviews, ensuring the brand reflects shared pride and aspirations.

Barrett said Headlee’s work has resulted in a bold, modern identity that reinforces Northeast’s commitment to students, employees, and the region. His problem-solving approach, attention to quality, and collaborative mindset help ensure all projects align with the college’s mission and values.

Colleagues across campus have praised Headlee’s contributions.

Terri Heggemyer, director of Career Services, highlighted his leadership on the Graduate Report, noting that he transformed it into an award-winning publication through a clear vision and thoughtful design decisions aligned with institutional goals. She emphasized his straightforward approach and significant role in elevating Northeast’s brand.

Jerrett Mills, athletic director, also credited Headlee with enhancing the college’s image through cohesive branding that resonates with students and the community. Mills noted that Headlee’s work captures school pride and competition while aligning branding efforts with Northeast’s mission, vision and values.
