West Point Extended Campus

Northeast Community College’s Pathways 2 Tomorrow (P2T) program at the West Point Extended Campus continues to thrive, delivering hands-on career training and college credit opportunities to students from nine area schools.

Enrollment has surged to 135 students across five career pathways: Health Science, Welding, Building Construction, Education, and Information Technology, with an additional CDL course offered in the spring semester.

Health Science Pathway
One of the most popular tracks, Health Science provides foundational and advanced training for healthcare careers. First-year students take courses such as Nurse Aide and Intro to Health Science, while second-year students gain specialized skills in Phlebotomy, Anatomy & Physiology, and Medical Assisting. Enrollment in the second year doubled to 18 students after a curriculum redesign, offering more individualized training and job shadowing opportunities.

Welding Pathway
Welding remains in high demand due to strong industry connections and high-paying job prospects. With limited booth space, P2T runs two sections annually. In the past, it was able to serve up to 24 students, but now with schedule changes to meet demand, that number has been increased to 48 students per year. Students can earn both certificates and diplomas, and many graduate with job offers in hand.

Building Construction Pathway
After hiring a full-time faculty member, this program expanded significantly and now is expected to serve up to 60 students annually. Previously, 30 students had been the max. Students gain practical carpentry skills and work on community projects, such as building sheds sold to fund program growth.

Education and Information Technology Pathways
Education students complete Level I of Wayne State’s program, entering college as sophomores. IT students explore coding, networking, and cybersecurity, culminating in capstone projects presented to their schools.

Impact and Future Growth
P2T continues to adapt to student interests and workforce needs through curriculum updates and partnerships. “We see students who shine when given hands-on opportunities,” said Gina Holtz, Director of the West Point Extended Campus. “These pathways open doors to careers and further education.”
