Northeast Community College Livestock Judging Team

The Northeast Community College Livestock Judging Team has completed the fall semester portion of its season.

Along with competition, Mike Roeber, Northeast Ag instructor and judging coach, and the Northeast team of livestock judging members help with other contests, such as for 4-H and FFA students. They do such tasks as enter cards and figure scores or listen to oral reasons.

Giving a set of reasons requires the entrants to tell a judge why he or she placed the class of four animals the way they did. The reasons are usually given one-on-one, with the contestant speaking to the judge.

Roeber has been coaching the livestock judging team at Northeast since 1998. He is the fourth coach, with the program begun by Jerome Settles.

The next contest for the team will be the National Western in Denver during January 2026.
