O’NEILL -- Northeast Community College’s Extended Campus in O’Neill recently held its annual Early College Exploration Day, helping future college students to learn about possible careers.
The campus welcomed nearly 270 students from 10 area high schools for the fourth annual event, which is designed to spark curiosity and connect students with real-world career pathways.
Throughout the day, students rotated through six of 13 interactive breakout sessions, engaging in hands-on activities and exploring opportunities in fields such as healthcare, science, engineering, public administration, applied technology, and truck driving. Many of these areas are available to high school students through the Fridays@Northeast program.
Faculty and industry professionals led dynamic demonstrations, shared career insights, and answered questions about academic programs and workforce needs. Students experienced everything from the science behind biology and engineering to practical skills in welding, electrical systems, and transportation careers.
“This event is all about helping students envision their future,” said Merri Schneider, director of Extended Campus in O’Neill. “They’re not just hearing about careers — they’re experiencing them and connecting with instructors who teach our Fridays@Northeast classes. That connection can make all the difference in planning for their future.”
Early College Exploration Day reflects Northeast Community College’s commitment to providing early access to higher education and career pathways for area youth.
