SOUTH SIOUX CITY — Taking classes at Northeast Community College in South Sioux City is one of the most affordable options among Siouxland-area colleges.
Students can save money, start their college degree, and receive quality instruction without having to relocate.
The quality instruction at the South Sioux City extended campus is led by three full-time instructors who teach transfer-level college courses.
Katie Johnson, Amanda Thomason, and Renee Krusemark bring a combined 48 years of teaching experience to the South Sioux City campus, along with real-world, industry experience.
“Taking in-person classes has been a dream,” said Aylah Christiansen, a South Sioux City resident on a pre-veterinary technology pathway. “When I have a question or concern, all of my (instructors) are more than willing to help.”
Christiansen is currently taking three of her required general education courses at the South Sioux City campus.
“Aylah always goes out of her way to include other students and help them with challenging course topics,” said Thomason, instructor of General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology I and II, as well as Microbiology on the South Sioux City campus. “The South Sioux City extended campus is fortunate to have such a kind, hardworking student,” added Thomason, who holds a Doctor of Chiropractic degree and has 14 years of experience teaching at the South Sioux City campus.
Krusemark, who has a doctorate in education, teaches transfer-level English classes at the South Sioux City extended campus. A former award-winning Marine Corps journalist, she continues to work in media relations and is a published researcher.
"Many people know we offer adult education and ESL classes, along with industrial-specific training including welding, truck driving, and nurse aide,” said Krusemark, who has taught at Northeast for 17 years. “They might not realize we offer in-person math, science, and English courses that transfer to most area colleges.”
Johnson, full-time math instructor at the South Sioux City extended campus, brings 10 years of experience teaching at the college-level as well as seven years teaching at the secondary education level.
“I love helping students see that they can do math,” Johnson said. “With a master’s in mathematics education and studies in educational and behavioral psychology, I’m dedicated to supporting my students, building their confidence, and going the extra mile to help them reach their goals.”
“The faculty (at South Sioux City) go above and beyond,” said Christiansen. “Attending classes here has challenged me in a positive way, and I’ve made lifelong friends.”
