In September, two Northeast Community College instructors participated in the Southern Criminal Justice Association Conference. 

Colleen Barnes, Criminal Justice/Sociology instructor, and Matt McCarthy, Criminal Justice Program director, traveled to Charleston, South Carolina, in September to participate in the conference. McCarthy presented Artificial Intelligence use in the Criminal Justice classroom, as well as teaching real-world skills in the criminal justice classroom. 

 Additionally, McCarthy was presented with a copy of the text, "Dispatch to Disposition," written by Christopher Utecht and Ronald Connolly. McCarthy is recognized in it as a valued contributor for his work reviewing and editing the text. 

SCJA was created in 1972, nine years after ACJS, and became officially recognized as the first regional organization of ACJS a year later in 1973.  In 2022, the SCJA achieved its own 50-year anniversary. SCJA is committed to supporting Criminal Justice education and research for students, scholars and professionals alike.
