Dates and Deadlines

Upcoming Dates:

Graduation Applications will be sent to prospective graduates preferred email address as noted in their My Northeast account. The Spring Graduation Application link will be in the email, which will go out in early February for Spring graduates. (Fall graduates completed the Graduation Application in October.) Please verify your "preferred" email address in your My Northeast account and watch this email account closely for this email. (You may need to check your spam or junk folder.) If you do not receive this email by February 26, 2020, please contact the Admissions and Registration Department. Applications must be completed by February 28, 2020.

2/24/2020

  • Prospective Graduates should have received the Graduation Application email. See note above.

2/28/2020

  • Graduation Applications must be completed by 5:00 p.m.

3/4/2020

  • Email goes out to prospective graduates who have indicated on the Graduation Application that they will attend the ceremony. This email will contain Cap, Gown and Ticket Distribution (CGT) information and will begin the series of "Weekly Wednesdays" emails that contain valuable information for ceremony attenders.

3/10/2020

  • Last day to change attendance option from previous entry on your completed Graduation Application.

4/9/2020

  • Last day for prospective graduates who have indicated that they will attend commencement to change the distribution location of their cap, gown and tickets. (O'Neill, South Sioux City, West Point or Norfolk).
  • Deadline to request confidentiality for graduation publications*. (Contact the Admissions and Registration Department by 5:00 p.m. today.) *Students with filed documentation will have their names withheld from any publication, including the commencement program, posted list and news articles.
  • All Student Accounts & Cashier holds must be released by this day, for prospective graduates to receive their cap, gown and tickets (CGT) on April 21st and 22nd. Check your My Northeast account, click on Student Records and then View Holds. If you have an Student Accounts & Cashier hold, please contact the Northeast Community College Accounts Receivable Office at (402) 844-7001.
  • Requests for accommodations at commencement should be made by May 13, 2020.

4/21/2020 – CGT (Cap, Gown and Ticket Distribution)

  • 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Cap, gown and ticket* distribution in CWC 1108 (Front Tour Room) (CGT’s will only be released to the prospective graduate. Photo ID will be required.) *The exact number of tickets to be distributed will depend on the total number of attending graduates.
  • Depending on availability from our limited inventory, gowns may be exchanged for size issues on a first-come/first-serve basis from April 23th through May 15th.

*Guest seating in the gymnasium is by ticket only. Children 18 months or older require a ticket. Tickets will be distributed at the Cap, Gown and Ticket Distribution on April 23rd and 24th in the College Welcome Center.

Options for those without guest tickets are:

  • View the live ceremony on a live video feed, in reserved locations on campus
  • View the live ceremony over HawkTV on Digital Channel 20 through CableOne of Norfolk
  • Watch the live stream accessible at northeast.edu on commencement day

4/22/2020 – CGT (Cap, Gown and Ticket Distribution)

  • 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Cap, gown and ticket* distribution in CWC 1108 (Front Tour Room) (CGT’s will only be released to the prospective graduate. Photo ID will be required.) * The exact number of tickets to be distributed will depend on the total number of attending graduates.

All participants are required to wear academic caps and gowns at Commencement. To maintain the formal look of the regalia, Northeast suggests that men wear dark dress slacks and shoes. Women are encouraged to wear a dress that is no longer than the gown or dark dress slacks with dark shoes. All graduates must have cap, gown and tickets picked up from the Admissions and Registration Department by 5:00 p.m. None of these items will be available on the morning of commencement, May. 16, 2020

5/16/2020 Graduation Day – Cox Activities Center*

(Processional begins at 9:50 a.m. Guests must be seated before the processional begins.)

*Guest seating in the gymnasium is by ticket only. Children 18 months or older require a ticket. Tickets will be distributed at the Cap, Gown and Ticket Distribution on April 21st and 22nd in the College Welcome Center. These items will be distributed to students who have chosen to attend the ceremony when they completed their Graduation Application..

Options for those without guest tickets are:

  • View the live ceremony on a live video feed, in reserved locations on campus
  • View the live ceremony over HawkTV on Digital Channel 20 through CableOne of Norfolk
  • Watch the live stream accessible at northeast.edu on commencement day

Special Instructions for Tentative Graduates:

  • Graduates report to the Maclay Building by 9:15 a.m.
  • Processional begins at 9:50 a.m. Guests must be seated before the processional begins.
  • Graduates and their guests are cordially invited to a reception in the College Welcome Center (CWC) after the ceremony.
  • At commencement, a diploma cover is presented when you walk across the stage. The actual diploma will be distributed at a later date. (See Diploma Distribution below.) Additional diploma covers and tassels may be purchased in the Northeast Hawk Shop.
  • Students enrolled at Northeast Community College (Northeast) are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner. For further information, please see the Student Code of Conduct posted on our website and in the Student Handbook.

Diploma Distribution

  • **Further specific information about Diploma Pick-Up Week will be sent to the graduate’s Preferred email address by the end of June. This information will include the dates of Diploma Pick-Up Week and specific instructions to graduates not able to pick up their diploma during the Diploma Pick-Up Week.
  • Diplomas will not be distributed prior to the scheduled Diploma Pick-Up Week.
  • Awarded degree, diploma and certificate information can be found on the student’s Official Transcript, as well as the Unofficial Transcript located in the graduate’s MyNortheast account. Spring 2020 graduates should see this award information on these transcripts by the end of June.
