Debt Forgiveness Program

Northeast Community College is dedicated to helping students get a quality education. We believe that a gap in your studies is no reason to ignore your dream, and we're committed to helping you finish the goals you started.

To support these efforts, we've launched a Debt Forgiveness Program. If you've been away from Northeast, this is your opportunity to re-ignite your education. Enroll with the goal of obtaining a degree or certificate, and your prior debt will be waived.

You are eligible to participate in the Debt Forgiveness Program if you:

  • Have a past due balance at Northeast Community College incurred prior to January 1, 2020.
  • Have not attended a credit course at Northeast Community College after January 1, 2020.
  • Must be a degree seeking student who will enroll in the Fall 2021 semester at Northeast Community College.

This Debt Forgiveness Program will run for one year starting Fall 2021 and applies only to debt accumulated before January 1, 2020.

Requirements

  • Students must be enrolled continuously for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 semesters
  • Student must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours toward their degree each semester.
  • Students must complete each semester at Northeast Community College with a term GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Students must pass all attempted credit hours each semester
  • Student will have 50% of their Northeast Community College debt forgiven upon sufficient completion of the Fall 2021 semester or earned their degree.
  • Students will have remaining 50% of their Northeast Community College debt forgiven upon sufficient completion of the Spring 2022 semester or earned their degree.
  • Students are responsible for new expenses associated with their enrollment at Northeast Community College.
  • Students must have a financial plan at the time of registration with payment due August 13, 2021 and January 9th, 2022.

    • Payment Plan
  • If financial plan is defaulted, the student will be removed from the debt forgiveness program and all debt will be due.
    • Students must be enrolled by July 30th, 2021 and January 5th, 2022.

Steps to Start Your Success

Give us a call (402) 844-7001 and let us help you determine eligibility for the program and assist you through the next steps. Once we determine if you qualify for the Debt Forgiveness Program you will be able to start on step one below.

  1. Apply to Northeast Community College. If you have not taken classes with Northeast for more than a year, you will need to apply.
  2. Apply for financial aid by complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Northeast's Federal ID# is 002556.
  3. Complete a placement test (if applicable). Your placement test will determine the appropriate English and Math courses for you.
  4. Meet with Advising and Register for classes. Your Northeast advisor will help you register in your program of choice.
  5. Sign the program petition/agreement with the terms of the program.
  6. Arrange your tuition payments for the semester. Northeast offers multiple ways to help pay your tuition that include a tuition payment plan, financial aid or paying out of pocket.
  7. Complete your degree! Once enrolled in the program, half of your debt will be waived if you stay enrolled for the current term and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. The remainder will be waived after successfully completing the Spring semester or your degree or certificate

While participating in the program means that your old debt will be waived, it is your responsibility to secure the tuition for the term for which you enroll. This could mean setting up a include a tuition payment plan, financial aid or paying out of pocket. We’ve also set tuition payment deadlines for each semester, ensuring our students remain in good standing and can continue in their classes without getting into new debt. With the payment plan options and tuition deadlines, you can have a much easier time avoiding debt and completing your education.

One-Time Opportunity

The Debt Forgiveness Program is a one-time opportunity, meaning it's a chance at erasing your prior college debt, earning your degree or certificate, obtaining a fulfilling career, and/or transferring to a four-year college or university.

This Debt Forgiveness Program will run for one year starting Fall 2021 and applies only to debt accumulated before January 1, 2020.
