Students pursuing a career in the fitness industry can choose between a diploma or an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Personal Training—an area experiencing rapid growth both statewide and nationally. The diploma option allows students to complete essential training and certification preparation in less time, making it ideal for those eager to enter the workforce quickly. The associate degree provides a broader academic foundation, including general education courses, and is well-suited for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree in a fitness-related field. Both pathways combine academic knowledge with hands-on training to prepare students for success as certified exercise professionals.

Why Students Choose This Program

Small class sizes in the Personal Training program offer individualized support and allow students to learn directly from experienced, passionate faculty. With fewer students, instructors can provide personalized guidance, hands-on coaching, and targeted feedback to help each student build confidence and master key concepts. This supportive environment ensures students are well-prepared for certification, career success, and continued education in the fitness field.

The Personal Training program offers students the flexibility to enter the workforce quickly or transfer to a four-year institution to continue their education in a fitness-related field. Students planning to transfer are encouraged to work closely with academic advisors at both Northeast and their intended college, using the Transfer Guide to select courses that align with their long-term goals and ensure a smooth transition.

Start your path in the fitness industry at Northeast by completing foundational courses in the Personal Training program at a lower cost. You’ll build a strong academic base while saving on tuition, making it easier to transfer to a four-year institution and reduce the overall cost of your bachelor’s degree in a fitness-related field.
