Phlebotomy Technician
Degrees and Programs
The phlebotomy technician program will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to collect blood for therapeutic or diagnostic measures as a phlebotomist. The course includes principles of proper phlebotomy, specimen processing, patient care, maintenance and use of equipment, recordkeeping, basic principles of anatomy and physiology, disease process, therapeutic communication, hazardous material management, and patient assessment.
This course combines classroom lecture, laboratory, and clinical applications for the development of basic skills needed to provide safe, effective, and knowledgeable services to patients needing laboratory services.
Career Information
After successfully completing this course, you will be prepared for employment as a phlebotomist in centralized or decentralized labs. You can further your credentials by taking an exam to complete your certification as a Phlebotomy Technician by the American Medical Technologist after one year of full-time employment.
Salary Information
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average salary for a phlebotomist is $25,180 - $38,700 a year.
