Job Description:
- Under the direction of the Solid Waste Supervisor, performs a variety of duties in the operation of the Transfer Station Scalehouse. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Opens and closes the scalehouse; • Weighs customers in and out; • Inspects loads for questionable or banned wastes; • Records a running total on trailer weight; • Communicates via two-way radio with the station operators regarding the customer’s weight and waste type; • Balancing the cash drawer on a daily basis and preparing deposit reports; • Answering customer questions; • Operates computer and related office equipment; • Keeps the inside office area and the surrounding property to scale house clean; • Gives directions to the various areas for disposal of grass, trees, pallets, concrete, etc.; • Takes phone calls to help customers what can be disposed at the transfer station; • Makes referrals to other recyclers or other resources for disposal of items that cannot be taken at the transfer station; • Directs customers to the oil and chemical site; • Cleans snow and debris from scale deck and walk ways; • Maintains grounds adjacent to the scale house; • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
- Training on how to recognize unacceptable wastes; represents the City and must therefore be courteous and patient with customers; maintain a working relationship with members of staff; able to handle cash and charge transactions; maintain computerized records; prepare reports and operate all associated office equipment.
