We are seeking talented, energetic, and dedicated applicants who possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or will obtain their degree by December 2020. You'll gain valuable experience with various facets of highway construction including plan reading, surveying, construction inspection and material testing, in grading pavement and structures and ultimately project management including management of staff and resources. Upon completion of the two-year program, every effort will be made to place the successful applicant in the Division or District where they would prefer to continue their career with the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Opportunities are available at the below listed District Offices statewide and participants will choose where they want to work: Ainsworth, Lincoln, Norfolk, North Platte. Examples of Work The successful applicant will be closely mentored and given every opportunity to learn the different facets of field engineering by being exposed to the work assigned to a District office. Learn and gain experience with various aspects of highway construction including plan reading, surveying, construction inspection, materials testing, pavement, structures, and project management. Attend and assist in pre-construction meetings and conferences. Perform routine administrative work in the maintenance of records and reports. Maintain accurate measurements and documentation of project pay items.

Job Requirements

Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in engineering or Registration as a Professional Engineer. Consideration will be given to applicants who will receive a Bachelor's degree within 120 days of application date. PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Successful completion of FE/EIT examination. OTHER: Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program. If applicant has not completed FE/EIT certification, they will be expected to pursue certification to allow for career progression. Must have valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Effective communication skills are required to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to work long hours in extreme temperatures while construction is in progress.
