Campus Security
Operating 24/7 On Campus
The College contracts with a private security firm to provide general campus security. Security officers work closely with local law enforcement agencies in coordinating campus security. They conduct foot and vehicular patrols of the campus 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
Security officers enforce laws regulating alcohol use/abuse, the use of controlled substances, and weapons. Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, and weapons of any type are not permitted on campus. Refer to the section on Drugs and Alcohol and Weapons Possession for more details.
Upon receipt of a call, campus security is dispatched to the site of the complaint. Security staff will contact local law enforcement if required. Security officers prepare and submit incident reports to the College administration. These reports are reviewed by the administration for follow-up and possible corrective action.
Security officers work with local law enforcement agencies to monitor and record criminal activity at off-campus College-sponsored activities and events in Norfolk.
The Physical Plant staff maintains the campus buildings and grounds with a concern for safety and security. The staff inspects campus facilities regularly, completes repairs affecting safety and security, and provides timely response to reports of potential safety and security hazards.
The College campus is well lit, including lights on buildings, in parking areas, and along pathways frequently traveled by students and staff.
