    Key ag concepts targeted by "Themes Across the Curriculum"

    NORFOLK, NE - For the past five years, faculty in the Northeast Community College Ag Department have been consistently stressing key concepts to their students across all ag programs.Corinne Morris, dean of agriculture, math and science at Northeast, said the concepts are those things important throughout agriculture, including risk management, profitability, safety, professionalism and communication, and stewardship and water management. The effort is called TAC – Themes Across the Curriculum.

    1,100 students participate in scholastic contest & quiz bowl

    by jamesc  3/21/2019 11:58:16 AM --  NORFOLK, NE – Wayne Community Schools won the 2019 Class C High School Scholastic Contest hosted by Northeast Community College on Wednesday in Norfolk. Wakefield Community School was second and Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington placed third. In the Class D contest, Wausa Public School claimed first-place honors. Howells-Dodge Consolidated Schools was second followed by a tie for third between Plainview High School and Rock County High School.

    Northeast ag class teaches "safety is everybody's job"

    Agriculture is the most dangerous industry in the nation, according to the National Safety Council. Fatality and serious injury rates run high. Human error is a factor, as well as the abundant workplace hazards – from cantankerous cows to toxic chemicals to underground manure pits and overhead power lines. Consequences may include drowning, electrocution, suffocation, loss of limbs and pulmonary diseases.

The students, with many of their parents and others watching, signed letters of intent to enroll in career and technical education (CTE) programs at Northeast Community College.

    NORFOLK, NE - An intense eight weeks are underway for agricultural instructor Robert Noonan and students in his Crop Chemicals class at Northeast Community College in Norfolk.“I use every minute” of the twice-weekly class, he said. “It’s a very serious topic.”
