CREIGHTON, Neb. - A former longtime member of the Northeast Community College of Board of Governors has died. Keith Harvey, Creighton, passed away Friday, May 1, at the Plainview Manor in Plainview. He was 70.

Harvey served on the College Board of Governors, representing District 2 of Keya Paha, Brown, Rock, Boyd, Holt, and Knox counties in their entirety and a portion of Cedar County from 2000-2019. He chaired several committees and served as board chairperson in 2008 and 2013. He was board vice-chairperson in 2007.

“(Serving on the Northeast board) has been one of the greatest experiences of my life,” Harvey said when he resigned last summer. “I have been blessed to have been able to work with so many dedicated people for almost 20-years. And the changes that I have seen in this educational institution have been almost beyond my ability to fully appreciate.”

A graduate of the University of Southern Colorado - Pueblo with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Harvey also earned a bachelor of science in business administration from National College, Pueblo, Colo., and a master of education with an emphasis on technology in education from Lesley College, Cambridge, Mass.

He was an educator who taught middle and high school science, served as an instructor at National College and was office manager at the Western Cooperative Electric Association in WaKeeney, Kan. Harvey retired as general manager of the North Central Public Power District in Creighton in 2019, a position he assumed in 1999.

At the time of his resignation from the Board of Governors, Harvey said, “I know that I vacate my position with the absolute belief that Northeast will continue to be the shining star of northeast Nebraska. It has been a privilege to have been able to work with all of the board members that I have been involved with over the years and those currently seated. … I will miss all of you and the college beyond words. This was always my favorite organization and I have been truly blessed by being part of it.”

In addition to his service to the board of governors, he was a member of Creighton Chamber of Commerce and Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Harvey is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Lisa, Brandon, Heather, and Stacy; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Kenneth E. Harvey Jr. (Gene) of Pueblo, Colo., Karl L. Harvey of Pueblo, Nancy J. Harvey of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Karen Kay Harvey of Colorado Springs.

Private family services will be held. Limited public visitation for Keith Harvey will be from 4-7 p.m., on Friday, May 8, at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Due to current healthcare measures concerning COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be followed.
