Hanson named executive director of Northeast's So. Sioux City Extended Campus

NORFOLK, NE – Northeast Community College has named Dr. Cyndi Hanson as the new executive director of the College’s extended campus operation in South Sioux City.

As the executive director of Northeasts extended campus, Hanson will serve as a liaison in the region working with area businesses, educational institutions and governmental organizations to identify opportunities to partner in the development of the skilled workforce needed for continued economic growth in South Sioux City and the surrounding area.

Hanson looks forward to representing Northeast in South Sioux City and the area.

“Community colleges are uniquely positioned institutions of higher education in that they are more agile and able to adapt credit and noncredit programming offered to meet the immediate and projected needs of students, employers and communities. Northeast Community College has a history of excellent, commitment to the Siouxland area, and the history of collaborative working relationships with South Sioux City serve as a strong foundation for further growth in meeting the workforce educational needs of today and tomorrow.”

Dr. Michael Chipps, Northeast president, said Hanson will provide Northeast with strong representation in the greater Siouxland region.

“Dr. Hanson brings strong communication skills and extensive higher education experience into the leadership role at Northeast in South Sioux City. Her knowledge of the area will allow her to work
side-by-side with local and area business and industry, school representatives and others in meeting workforce development needs in the Siouxland region. We are pleased she has joined the Northeast team.” 

Hanson is presently a project director at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, IA. She has also served as a full-time instructor in the business and economics department at Wayne State College and as an adjunct instructor at Wayne State College, Morningside College, Briar Cliff University and the University of South Dakota. In addition, she has served as a training specialist for Great Western Casualty Company and as a speaker, trainer and consultant for Rayford and Associates. 

Hanson is a native of Mapleton, IA. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, and her Master’s degree in Adult Education and Leadership from Drake University in Des Moines, IA. She earned her Doctor of Education degree with an emphasis in Education Administration from the University of South Dakota.

Mary Honke, Northeast executive vice president, said Hanson's education and experience provide an excellent background for the newly created leadership position for Northeast's South Sioux City extended campus.

"I am confident that Dr. Hanson will allow Northeast to continue its role of collaboratively serving the higher education needs of the region."

Hanson will be located at the College Center, a facility jointly owned and operated with Wayne State College.  

Northeast offers associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and classes in a number of areas in
South Sioux City: academic transfer, accounting, administrative professional, agriculture-college transfer, basic nurse aide, behavioral science, business administration, criminal justice, drafting, elementary education, emergency medical technician-basic, human services, medication aide, nursing, nurse aid, office management, social science, truck driving and welding.

In addition to its main campus in Norfolk, Northeast Community College operates two additional extended campuses in O’Neill and West Point and two regional offices in Ainsworth and Hartington.
