Famous radio drama staged at Northeast

NORFOLK, Neb. - Isaiah Baker (left) and Paul Muncy, wait for their sound effects cue in the Norfolk Community Theatre/Northeast Community College production of War of the Worlds.

Baker is a student at the college while Muncy is a history/geography instructor.

The production is based on a real event, a 1938 radio broadcast by Welles’s Mercury Theatre on the Air that dramatized a Martian invasion of Earth. Many people took the fictional news account as a real news broadcast.

The production will be staged Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, at 2 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Cox Activities Center Theatre. It will be held again March 12-14 at 7:30 each evening.
