Spring concert to be held at Northeast

NORFOLK, NE - The music department at Northeast Community College will host its annual winter concert later this month. The Northeast Community College Winter Concert will be held on Sunday, April 14, at 2 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center on the Norfolk campus.

The College/Community Concert Band; Concert Choir; Ebony & Crimson, Northeast’s men’s and women’s audition ensemble; and the Northeast Percussion Ensemble will take the stage.

Selections to be performed by the Community/College Concert Band include “20th Century Rag” by Maurice Abrahams, arranged by Robert Recker; “As Summer Was Just Beginning” by Larry Daehn and selections from “West Side Story,” by Leonard Bernstein, arranged by W.J. Duthoit. The Percussion Ensemble will perform “Blue Plate Special” by Chris Crockarell.

Ebony & Crimson will sing “Down to the Water,” arranged by Larry Harris; “Maid of Llanwellyn” by Charles McCartha; “Hello Girls” by Lloyd Pfautsch; and “Shenandoah,” arranged by Michael John Trotta. The Concert Choir will perform “What Then?” by Michael John Trotta; “Oceans and Stars” by Amy Bernon; and “Ballade to the Moon” by Daniel Elder.

The College/Community Concert Band is led by Kevin McLouth, instrumental music instructor/director of instrumental activities at Northeast.

Stewart Cramer, music instructor and director of vocal activities, is the director of Concert Choir and Ebony & Crimson. Margaret Schultz is the accompanist.

Concert Choir members include all Ebony & Crimson members as well as Drake Boyle (tenor), Norfolk; KC Carey (alto), Norfolk; Amy Hammond (soprano), Randolph; Mackenzie Higgins (alto), Oakdale; and Alexis Lautzenhiser (alto), Norfolk.

The Spring Concert is free and open to the public. In addition, free will donations will be collected at the concert with proceeds to be presented to the Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk to assist in flood recovery efforts.
