LINCOLN, NE – Two Northeast Community College students have been recognized for their exceptional musical abilities. Connor Lemke-Elznic and Corbin Dean were selected to participate in the annual Nebraska Intercollegiate Band.
The group was made up of approximately 75 outstanding instrumentalists from colleges and universities across Nebraska.
The Nebraska Intercollegiate Band performed March 2 in Kimball Recital Hall on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln following a day-and-a half of intensive rehearsals. The concert was one of several that were performed during the annual Nebraska State Bandmasters Association State Convention. The band was conducted by Scott Teeple from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Lemke-Elznic, a percussionist, is a graduate of Winside High School. Previously, he was selected to perform with high school honor bands, including the 2016 Nebraska All-State Band. He also played in the 2018 Nebraska Intercollegiate Band. Lemke-Elznic is a music major at Northeast and is planning to transfer to the University of Nebraska-Kearney and eventually become a professional musician.
Dean, who plays the baritone, is graduate from O’Neill High School, where he performed in various honor bands in high school. He will graduate in May with a degree in electrical construction and control.
Lemke-Elznic and Dean are members of the Northeast Community College Jazz Machine, directed by Kevin McLouth, music instructor/director of instrumental activities at Northeast. Both are also members of the College/Community Concert Band. In addition, Lemke-Elznic has been a part of Northeast’s Percussion Ensemble that has performed throughout the year.
McLouth, said he is pleased Lemke-Elznic and Dean were selected for this honor.
“They had the opportunity to perform in a great facility with other great musicians and make some great music and memories.”
