Brent Lambley, Sioux Falls, SD, will speak on Wednesday, March 13, at 12 p.m. in Suite G of the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Originally from Norfolk, Lambley graduated from Norfolk High School in 1986 and soon fell into active drug addiction for the next 16 years. In 2000, he entered a treatment program and began a life of recovery.
Lambley went on to earn degrees from Northeast Community College, Wayne State College and the University of South Dakota. He has worked in a variety of chemical dependency treatment settings, including four years in dual diagnosis and three years at Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, SD. He currently works in Keystone’s intensive outpatient program in Sioux Falls and is committed to bringing recovery to his community.
Matt McCarthy, criminal justice director at Northeast, said Lambley’s work is closely tied to the criminal justice field, as he has regular contact with federal and state probation, drug courts, DUI courts and parole.
“Brent is very realistic when he talks about addiction, his struggles with it and helping others battle their own addictions. His candor and insight will give listeners a true-to-life portrayal of addiction and greatly aid students as they pursue careers in the criminal justice system.”
The associate of arts degree in criminal justice at Northeast Community College gives students knowledge to apply their education directly on the job or to continue study toward a four-year degree. The program offers two interdisciplinary concentrations, corrections and law enforcement.
