NORFOLK, NE – Students at Northeast Community got into the holiday spirit with a visit to “Santa’s Workshop” recently.

Members of the Student Activities Council (SAC) organized the event as part of the weekly “Wacky Wednesday” to give students an opportunity to revisit their childhood with some hands-on activities and capturing the memory with Kris Kringle himself.

One of the activities involved the students creating their own stuffed animal.

“The students were able to choose from a wide variety of critters, receive a package of stuffing, and then were able to stuff that critter and turn it into a stuffed animal to take home with them,” said Erika Rupprecht, student activities coordinator. “When I say we had a wide variety of critters, we really had a ton!”

The critters included cows, teddy bears, raccoons, alligators, lions, monkeys, giraffes, tigers, polar bears, pandas, elephants and puppy dogs. This year, SAC also offered “stuff a wizard,” in addition to the “stuff a critter.” These were Harry Potter-themed animals that came with a scarf.

“The Harry Potter fans loved these new critters,” Rupprecht said.

The students were able to pick out a personalized Northeast Hawks shirt for their new stuffed animal. The hawk is the school mascot.

After they stuffed their critter, sugar cookies were available for students to decorate with the provided frosting and sprinkles. And it would not be Santa's Workshop without the man himself.

Rupprecht said, “Yes, Santa was around for picture opportunities. With all the silly hats and holiday props provided, students took pictures with Santa … and with the provided backdrops and then printed them off using the Student Activities Council photo box, so they will always have a picture to remember this event.”

Rupprecht said the students had an enjoyable time.

“This was a wonderful event for students to come to and get their mind off homework and studying for a short time and to recharge!”
