The second annual S.O.S. (Services, Opportunities, Support) Fair featured 18 community organizations and four Northeast departments, all with informational booths for students to learn about the services, support and involvement opportunities available in the South Sioux City community.

“We know that college success is impacted by so much more than the classroom,” said Dr. Cyndi Hanson, South Sioux City extended campus executive director. “It is wonderful to have so many agencies willing to share their ‘wrap-around’ services with these students. It complements the College’s focus on student success beautifully.”

Nearly 100 students and staff participated in the two-hour, open-house style event. Hanson said many students made connections that will aid in their educational success.

“The success of the S.O.S. Fair was a direct result of the support of faculty and staff in recognizing the value and encouraging student participation.”

Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about clubs, career support, financial aid and academic support services offered by Northeast.

Community organizations that participated included Women Aware, Center for Siouxland, Community Action Agency, Vocational Rehabilitation, Siouxland Community Health and Mary J. Treglia Community House, all of which aid students as they balance work, family, school and health. CableOne, Siouxland YMCA and Aventure Staffing also provided information on employment and activity opportunities. Unity in Action provided information on civic engagement and voter registration.

Northeast Community College’s South Sioux City extended campus is located at 1001 College Way. It offers more than 20 degree programs that can be completed in South Sioux City.
