Open house, auction set for student built homes

NORFOLK, NE – Open houses will be held next week for the public to tour two student-designed-and-built, new homes at Northeast Community College in Norfolk. The houses will be sold at public auction in June.

The open houses will be held Tuesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 24, from 7-9 p.m., at Northeast Community College. The homes will be auctioned Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m., at the college.

The first home, a 1,620-square-foot, two-bedroom home with an attached two-car garage, also has main and master bathrooms, formal dining room, main-floor utility room, and coffered and vaulted ceilings. This home also has granite kitchen countertops, Integrity casement windows, and R-21 sidewalls and R-44 attic cellulose insulation.

The second home is a 1,652-square-foot, three-bedroom home, also with an attached two-car garage, main and master baths, formal dining room, and coffered ceilings. In addition, this home has granite kitchen countertops, Anderson casement windows, and R-21 sidewalls and R-44 attic cellulose insulation.

Monty Johnson, dean of Applied Technology at Northeast, said these homes have pre-painted fiber cement siding, asphalt shingles, and laminate flooring in the entryways, kitchens and dining rooms. These houses also have Ferche’ oak millwork stained to match the built-in custom cabinetry.

Both homes include all water, vent and waste lines extended to floor joist level for ease of hook-up and 2x6-inch exterior stud walls with cellulose insulation throughout. According to Johnson, these homes meet or exceed local and state building codes. All electrical conveniences were installed in accordance with the national electric and FHA code. Circuits are tested and connected to a 200-amp breaker panel.

Buyers must pay 20 percent down the day of the sale and the balance when the home is moved at buyer’s expense within 60 days. A sales tax of seven-percent will be collected at final closing.

For more information or to schedule a tour, call Johnson at (402) 844-7215.
