Northeast music groups wrap up spring tour

NORFOLK, NE - Two Northeast Community College musical groups have returned from a spring tour that saw them performing over eleven shows in four days across three states.

The Northeast Jazz Machine and Ebony & Crimson choir wrapped up the dates with a post-tour concert held at the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus recently.

Kevin McLouth, instrumental music instructor and director of the Jazz Machine, said the tour showcases the variety of music opportunities offered at Northeast.

“It lets people see possibilities at Northeast they might not have envisioned. It also gives our students an experience that is quite different than just playing a single concert.”

The Jazz Machine visited schools in O’Neill, Chambers, Palmer, Neligh, Elgin, Pender, Shelby, Winside, Wynot and Gayville, SD.

McLouth said the Jazz Machine’s concert included a number of jazz styles, including Afro-Cuban, shuffle, straight-ahead swing, funk, second line and bossa nova.
