(NORFOLK, Neb.) – Officials in the athletic department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk received word this week that Northeast will host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 East Region IX men’s basketball tournament Friday-Tuesday, March 4-8, on the campus in Norfolk.

The 16 participating teams from Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska are expected to begin arriving on campus on Thursday, March 3.  Opening round games are scheduled for 1, 3, 6, and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5, and quarter-final action is Sunday, March 6, at 1, 3, 6, and 8 p.m. Semi-final games are Monday, March 7, at 6 and 8 p.m. and the championship game is Tuesday, March 8, at 7 p.m.

Northeast Men’s Head Coach Dan Anderson looks forward to again hosting the Region IX men’s tournament. Northeast has hosted it only once before, in 2003.

“I invite all of northeast Nebraska to come see some or all of these games,” he said. “You always see some great games and great players at these Region IX tournaments.   Northeast Nebraska will be treated to a caliber of basketball rarely, if ever, seen in this area.”

"It should be a fun five days of basketball,” said Coach Anderson.

His team has won 14 consecutive games and stands at 18-6 for the season. Some of those early-season losses were by nationally-ranked teams.
