Northeast takes second place at Central golf invite

COLUMBUS, NE - The Northeast Community College golf team finished second in the four-team Central Community College Invite played at Elks Country Club here yesterday afternoon.

Northeast finished with a team total of 332. Central took first with a 321, while Doane University finished in third with a 350, and Union College was fourth with a 365. Central’s Jon Luckey took medalist honors with a 75.

Hawks Coach Kurt Pytleski said the tournament proved a challenge due to the high winds.

Mason Stubbs led the Hawks with a score of 78, his best score of the spring golf season.

Capp Bengston shot an 83. Andrew Schnoor was one stroke back, while Brook Klinetobe and Dylan Lilienthal both fired an 87.

“Mason has been playing much better golf the past few weeks, and that was a good round considering the tough playing conditions,” Pytleski said. “I am seeing improvement from all of our players, which is encouraging heading into next weekend.”

The Hawks will compete in the Region XI conference tournament held at Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora, IA, on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6.
