Burwell’s Mann to play basketball at Northeast

NORFOLK, NE – A standout player from Burwell has signed to play women’s basketball at Northeast Community College this fall. Blake Mann set a school record for Burwell High School with 1,291 career points. The 5’10” Mann averaged 15.7 points per game as a senior and helped lead the 20-6 Longhorns to the Class C-2 Girls State Basketball Tournament in Lincoln.

“Blake had a great career at Burwell and she will be a good addition to our program, said Matt Svehla, Hawks coach. “She can play the three-or-four spot and her three-point shooting is really starting to come on.”

Svehla said he is impre3ssed with Mann’s style.

“Even though she has set school records, played in the state tournament and received many post season honors, Blake is humble and grounded. She would rather talk about how Burwell got to the state tournament than any of her individual awards. She is a great person of high character.”

Mann earned several honors during her high school career. She was named to the Goldenrod All-Conference First Team, Grand Island Independent All-Heartland Super Squad First Team, Omaha World Herald All-State Class C-2 Second Team, and Lincoln Journal Star All-State Class C-2 Second Team. In addition, Huskerland Prep Report named Mann to its All State Class C-2 Second Team.

Mann will be busy this summer playing in three all-star games - Goldenrod Conference vs Crossroads Conference All-Star Game on May 25 at Central City High School; in the Grand Island Area Tom Dinsdale
All-Star Game on June 2 at Grand Island Senior High School, and in the Kearney Area Miss Basketball All-Star Game on July 15 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

While at Northeast, Mann plans to major in secondary education.
