Santa to visit Northeast; collect toys for children in need

NORFOLK, NE – Santa Claus is coming to town…specifically, he will be making stops this week at Northeast Community College.

Athletic Director Kurt Kohler said he has learned that the ‘jolly old elf’ is a huge fan of Northeast Hawks basketball.

“Santa has decided to come to Northeast to catch the final two basketball games of the semester and pass out goodies to all the good little boys and girls.”

On Wednesday, Santa Claus will attend a women’s game as Northeast (13-1) will host Iowa Central Community College. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. He will also be at Saturday’s game as the 10-6 Northeast men take on Highland (KS) Community College at 2 p.m. Both games will be held in the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.

“Bring your kids and have them bring their friends out to enjoy some great basketball and to see Santa before he heads back to the North Pole for his final preparations before Christmas Eve,” Kohler said. “Santa will arrive around halftime of each game, and he will also be available for pictures with the kids.”

Kohler said the Northeast Athletic Department will also be collecting donations for Toys for Tots. Everyone who brings a new, unwrapped toy to the games to donate to Toys for Tots will be admitted free.
