Northeast celebrates the season with the lighting of a holiday tree

by jamesc  12/6/2017 3:33:17 PM --  NORFOLK, NE – Northeast Community College has become a bit more ‘merry and bright.’ Dr. Michael Chipps, president, was joined by students, faculty and staff recently as he pressed the switch to light the College’s new outdoor holiday tree.

“Trees such as this to celebrate the season are common in our homes,” he said. “As you pass by the Northeast Holiday Tree over the next few weeks, I hope all of you, especially our students, will see it as another reminder of how Northeast serves as your home away from home.”

The ten-foot “pine” is located near the Northeast Library/Resource Center along a pedestrian walkway. It sits under a common-area shelter in the middle of the walkway, which is used heavily throughout the day.

Chipps said the tree can serve as a reminder for much of what the College can be grateful for as we begin the holiday season.

“As we gather around this special tree on this beautiful late autumn evening, let us be thankful for our blessings. We are so fortunate to have such a fine, outstanding college that has been recognized nationally for its collective work; an institution of higher learning that people in this region have come to rely on. And the year ahead will bring even more opportunities to celebrate our success.”

Members of the Northeast Ebony and Crimson choir sang holiday carols prior to the tree lighting while the Concert Choir sang at the end of the event. Both groups are under the direction of Dr. Michael Patch, director of choral activities. Margaret Schultz is the accompanist.
