Schultze honored by NJCAA

CHARLESTON, WV – Northeast Community College Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze has been recognized for leading her team to postseason play.

The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Schultze as its District C Coach of the Year for 2017. She was one of sixteen coaches from across the country to be recognized during a banquet prior to the start of the NJCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament in Charleston, WV.

The Hawks qualified for the national tournament for the second consecutive year after defeating Kirkwood Community College in the Region XI-A championship in a five set match.

Northeast finished 1-2 at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Hawks defeated Carl Sandberg College (IL), but lost two close matches to Sauk Valley Community College (IL) and Central Community College (NE). The Hawks finished the 2017 season with a 19-16 record.

Four of Schultze’s players also earned postseason honors. Outside hitter, Monique Schafer, Stuart, was one of eight players named to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) All-Conference First Team. Sophomore Macy Stewart, Shelby, was named to the All-Conference Second Team, while two other members of the Hawks, freshman Savannah Nelson, Wakefield, and sophomore Peyton Roach, Wayne, were named to the Honorable Mention team. 

Schafer was also named to the First Team All-Region XI A, while Nelson and Stewart were named to the Second Team All-Region XI A.

Schultze has served as Northeast volleyball coach since 2012.
